Off property rentals

Hello all. I am not sure if there is a thread devoted to this topic but I figured I would throw this out. I am planning (tentatively) a trip to WDW next year and I am thinking about renting a house.

Has anyone ever done this before?
What was your experience?
What website did you use?
Would you recommend this to anyone that has never done this before?

Renting off-property will likely be much cheaper than staying on-property.

However, there are additional things to factor in when staying off-property, most notably; transportation.

When staying on property, transportation to all the parks is free. Airport transfers to your resort may also be included.

When staying off-property, you'll likely need a hire car, so you'd need to factor in that cost, and also the parking charges at the parks each day.

...but those costs aside, it's likely to be more cost-effective to stay off-property, even if it's arguably less convenient.

When my family have done this in the past, we'd rent a villa in Kissimmee, which is a pretty ideal location as its within easy reach of everything!

Yeah, the parking was the newest cost I knew I had to consider. With the DDP gone (yes, I really like using it), I figured I will need to pay for dining and parking. I have a feeling that the cost will go up for both but not too bad.

FWIW, the dining plan was never particularly economical unless you either eat a lot or you get it for free as part of a promotion and there's no better room discount promotion (it's usually either/or-- room discount or free dining). And you're paying for parking at Disney either way, if you've got a car there at all, ever since they started charging resort guests for parking a few years back.

Personally, I'll probably keep staying on-site when I visit purely for convenience and atmosphere, but it's a harder sell right now than it should be-- no Magical Express, no Extra Magic Hours, no early FP+ booking. If you can find someplace off-property to rent for cheap and don't mind driving into the parks each day, you're not really losing out on much now.

I’m starting to see that as well. Granted, things can change over the next year (emphasis on could) and the DDP could come back. For me, I just like the idea that all my meals are paid for ahead of time. The quick service plan is great and any table service restaurants I just pay for out of pocket ( we usually do 1 to 2 at most).

Since we are not looking at going until next year, this gives me time to crunch the numbers and see what works best.
