Generally when do the dates and prices open up for the WDW resorts? Planning for a January 2022 trip.

Very likely they will be released around June, but I'd pretty much guarantee they will have some kind of sale that you can adjust to later. January is a slow time, so they typically are running the best deals then

I would also venture to bet that due to the pandemic putting a wrinkle in whatever they had planned for the 50th celebration, I imagine the celebration it self will extend into 2023. Past celebrations at both Disneyland and Disney World have been around 15-18 months with some getting extensions due to popularity towards the end of the initial schedule. All that, plus with large attractions not scheduled to open in 2021 for the actual 50th anniversary day, they will want to really extend any celebration to make sure there is enough time for a huge variety of guests who want to be part of it. I have NO inside information at all - I'm just trying to put myself into the people in charge of planning this celebration. Given that roughly 6 months of what they probably wanted to do is during a pandemic (some rumors had the celebrations starting around Memorial Day 2021), they probably want to keep those 6 months of bookings on the back end.

All of that is to say, I expect some great room deals for the next 2, 2.5 years for this 50th celebration that I think will run from Oct 1st, 2021 through October 31st, 2023
