Crossroads Shopping Center Closing . . . Memories

Postby JLThemeParkDude » Thu Feb 04, 2021 10:08 am

The Crossroads Shopping Center, right across from the entrance to Lake Buena Vista/Disney Springs, is apparently closing to make way for a highway expansion. This news brought to my mind a lot of Disney-related memories of the center. Often, prior to going into the park, I would stop at the now defunct Goodings supermarket, to pick up something or other before going in. Often, when hanging around that area, I would stop by for something to eat at Noodles, or Sweet Tomatoes (now defunct also), or Moes. My wife (who passed away some months ago) and I would often eat at TGI Fridays. Good treasured memories. Sometimes, when I was in the area, I would pass by the Pirate-themed mini golf in the back, and would enjoy taking in the touristy feel of the place. Just a few memories. Sorry to see it go. Paging Mr. Morrow posted this nostalgic video:https://youtu.be/S_bpLN_kQNk. Heres one from May 2020 from World of Micah: https://youtu.be/VGKhlwsuKaw

Thank you for the kind words. I do love being part of the Disney visitor community (My wife was a cast member), and the Resort TV 1 community. Resort TV 1 has always been a wonderful way to get away from the everyday life (as well as visiting the parks in person). Its been a blessing.

By the way, I think the shopping center will be there for a short time longer. So, if you want to visit, you still have the opportunity. Of course, in many ways, the good memories of the place all derived from its proximity to Disney, and its connection to being in the area around Disney. Otherwise its a shopping center, albeit a particularly nice one, and well maintained. It is a shame to see it go.

Edit: Beaker and Honeydew, sorry, I just realize you're in Texas. I assumed you were in the Orlando area.

The highway expansion project was announced like 4 or 5 years ago - maybe even longer. It's surprising that the project is still alive after all the apparent delays. Several years ago I worked a graveyard shift at the Sheraton just down the street from this shopping center. I can remember many times on my break going to the McDonald's, Taco Bell, Quiznos, Fuddruckers, Chevy's and Buffalo Wild Wings. The Goodings was an Orlando area chain of supermarkets at one point. They were on a whole different level of quality. Sadly this Goodings was the last one as the chain is no longer in business.

My husband and I use to go to Goodings at the start of every trip to pick up snacks, ice tea and water. We had taken friends to dinner at Jungle Jim’s but they closed years ago. There was a shop that sold Disney souvenirs that we had gone up a few times and we played mini golf at Pirates Cove.
