My trip 2-26/3-5 some thoughts

Postby cthorne98 » Mon Mar 07, 2022 7:13 am

Just got back and some of my observations on my Disney trip YMMV.

Let’s start with thing I found frustrating shall we
1) When did Cast members stop wishing you a magical day/night? I only heard this 20-30 % of the time.
2) When did the CM start pointing with one finger?
3) When did the CM get take an elevator before allowing the guest to go first?
4) New housekeeping schedule is a joke, every other day but doesn’t include making up the beds
5) Wi-Fi signal not strong enough outside your room to use your phone to open the door. I was lucky I had my magic band- Yes I paid for it but the guy next door waiting outside his room with his son while his wife went to the lobby for help.
6) Running out of forks at the food court- who’s job is it to refill these
7) Calling my mobile order ready only to find out they are out of Coffee (Rosie's All-American Café)
8) Trying to schedule attractions at 7am App or infrastructure is not robust enough to handle the traffic. I found it easier to only fill in the attractions "the night before" you want to pick right at 7 then add your others – this way you don’t need
to scroll down at 7:001 to find it while other are booking their spots.

Now for the new things I tried and found to add to my Disney trip experience YMMV.

1) “Rise of the resistance” the ride is awesome but the cast member who got me an opening after the app bombed out in the morning was terrific.
2) The Sky liner in general, the CM were very helpful and does this thing move a lot of people although it did break down twice while we were these. Not for long but we did start to switch to another line then take the boat.
3) Dinner at Cinderella’s Royal table
4) Riding the Carousel - first for me
5) All the update I noticed from my last trip in 2018 paint and colors seemed brighter crisper
6) Genie plus worked as expected during the day was able to ride everything we wanted, like I said above it can be hard to book Rise right at 7am.
7) I really liked Remy’s and Run away rail road both solid rides I paid for Remy’s and had G+ for the whole trip so I was able to utilize the LL option.

Some of frustration above may seem trivial but the total price tag wasn’t but I understand what I’m signing up for when I book the trip so I have no right to complain about the price but if you tell me for $10 more I could have housekeeping every day I might sign up for it. I was told none of it is a staffing issue which make me believe all the shortcuts are just to make an extra buck. Who knows? But everyone I spoke with said it’s all coming from the top down.
Trip 14 in the books and I’m sure these will be another in the future.

Have a Magical day everyone :D

Sounds like an overall great trip. I do miss the daily housekeeping-coming back from a day in the parks, the bed made up with towels folded in the shape of a Mickey....And I really really miss the individual soaps, shampoos, ect. I don't like the dispensers in the showers (that was a precovid change).

I'm still anit Genie+ because I think it takes advantage of the beginning/average park guest.

CM have always been great-I've never had one not point with 2 fingers ect. I'm guessing they are cutting back on CM training.

We just got back from our second WDW trip in the last 7 months.

I agree, that the housekeeping schedules and service quality has room for improvement. We stayed at Bay Lake Tower, Wilderness Lodge, and Animal Kingdom Lodge; the Bay Lake room was so dirty we called housekeeping within 10 minutes of walking thru the door. We are not clean freaks, we have two big dogs, two cats, and according to my wife... one pig (me). On the second trip, Animal Kingdom (non-DVC) was much better, but when we transferred to Wilderness Lodge (non-DVC) it was another poor guest experience.

I sincerely believe that cast members are at a significant disadvantage right now. Finding and hiring good people is tough. I've also observed more than a few guests furiously venting on cast members regarding Disney technology changes namely mobile food ordering and Genie. Even with Disney's adjustment to pay scales, the rent in Orlando is sky rocketing, and from my limited conversations with cast members; the college/international programs are still getting back to pre-Covid normal. I'm not going to defend any cast member poor behaviors, we have all run into a bad apple, but I do believe that like the rest of us, they have a lot going on that makes their job even more difficult right now.

But I also completely agree with you, we pay a lot of money for Disney to get it right, and not all the experiences are magical as they were before 2020.

Last time we were down there was summer 2019 and you had a choice: housekeeping or some type of credit if you declined. What is going on with housekeeping now?
