virtual queue

Postby jbletheby » Fri Apr 30, 2021 7:32 am

i was watching a video talking about implementing more virtual queues. they were not saying it was coming or not but simply what if. I love the idea of implementing rise of the resistance queues in more places but I am wondering a couple things
*what will it look like
*what will happen to these people that are not in lines. they have to go somewhere while waiting.
*will it be all rides
*is this the new fastpass

What are your thoughts?

The original FastPass system, Disneyland's FastPass/MaxPass, and the current WDW DAS system are all virtual queues, so, if Disney starts expanding virtual queues to more rides in the parks, it'll likely look a lot like those-- get in virtual queue for one (or some limited number) of rides at a time; go do something else (wait in standby for another ride, see a show, eat food, whatever); when your time comes up/number gets called, go to the FP return line and ride the ride.

However, I don't think we'll see virtual queues applied to all rides at this point-- if Disney were going to do that, they already would have. Wouldn't be too surprised if we see a Rise-like virtual queue (no standby line) for Guardians at Epcot whenever it opens and maybe Ratatouille depending on capacities (and how Disney wants to manage crowds), but Disney's had the capability (within the MDE app) to add virtual queues for more rides for several months now and has chosen not to-- they're obviously happy with the current situation, and even more popular rides like Runaway Railway still just run a normal standby line.
