Are Annual passes worth it for children under 10

Postby Josh42988 » Wed Oct 13, 2021 7:04 pm

So sister-in-law is moving to Orlando and we are thinking about getting annual passes for when we visit her. We have 2 children one is 6 and the other is 2. So the question I'm asking is it cheaper for us to buy the 6 year old a ticket each time we go or just go ahead and get an annual pass for her? Thanks for the input!

If you'll go often enough, the AP is worth it. Our daughter is 4 and has one. The break even, I want to say, is around 10-11 park days with Hopper.

Buying tickets 1 day at a time is the most expensive route, too, so it'd actually be like 6-7 days probably to break even.

Figure $110 a ticket for 1 day versus when you buy more days, you save. Anything 5+ days cuts that cost per day down a lot. So after typing this all out, an AP is definitely going to be your best bet if you're going to go 6 or more days likely.

Ok, so I'm guessing the price for ages 10 and under are the same as 10 and older they just want to separate it for whatever reason on the website. And do you know if there is a list somewhere to see what all merch and restaurants you get discounts at and thank you so much for your reply.

Yeah; AP prices are the same for all ages. Standard tickets are a bit cheaper for children under 10 than for adults, but the difference isn't huge these days (in the ballpark of $5 or less per ticket per day)-- it's not really big enough to meaningfully change the calculus on when it makes sense to go for an AP.

AP discounts should all be listed here: https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/passh ... discounts/

A 10 day park hopper starting on Nov. 1st (Disney has dynamic pricing depending on the days of the year your choose) for a child under 10 is $684.08 pre tax. This price comes from undercover tourist and has a savings of $65. So if you double that it would be $1368.16. Note I am giving a few graces-like keeping it the same days on the calendar.

An annual pass with tax is $1,383.44.

For an out of state adult-you need to visit the parks around 13-15 days on an annual pass to make it even to buying tickets.

Personally-if this were me and the family was making frequent trips down to FL then I would go with the annual pass just because of ease of planning.

Sure-- but Disney very heavily discounts multi-day tickets after about four or five days. Buy that same ten days worth of tickets one or two or three days at a time and it's going to cost you a lot more.

It used to be that tickets didn't expire (and for a while afterwards, you could add on a no-expiration option); under that system, buying a long multi-day ticket could be a viable alternative to an annual pass for someone who's making frequent, short visits. Now that tickets do expire, you'll break even on an annual pass after just ten or so days worth of one, two, or three day tickets; even less if you want to be able to park hop.

According to the WDW website the discount you speak of is a $20 per day discount on tickets when you purchase a 3 day or longer ticket-the o.p. didn't specify the frequency of trips and length of stay so I was giving a rough example of a one trip comparison. It's difficult to say yes or no because I don't know the exact details of what their plans are in the next year

There are other places and ways to get discounts but for straight WDW prices here you go-if you want to compare the cost of shorter trips this could help you get an idea. I was going to put this in a spreadsheet but those a.p. vs. ticket spreadsheets are already out there. I think I posted this somewhere else in the forums but touring plans are always reliable and can Math better than I can.
