fastpasses

Postby jbletheby » Mon Jul 05, 2021 3:32 pm

So I am wondering, with fastpasses being gone and the slow integration back of fastpasses. Is disney study the past effectiveness of fastpasses, or in my opinion the ineffectiveness of the current fastpass system. my question is 2 fold

are you a fan of the current fastpass system
and what would you like to see it come back as

1. I'm a fan of the f.p. but I really had to learn the sytem-inside & out so that I could use it to my advantage.
2. Just like it was prior to covid.

After just visiting Universal Orlando with their paid system and how poorly they run that system in the park-no thanks to something like that.

Fastpass+ is/was multi-dimensional...

One...increase enjoyment by lowering wait times for users.
Two...have it available for everyone (no charge) so that it was equal opportunity (everyone feels they are being treated fairly)
Three...have the system inform customers so they can be part of the process of spreading the load across the entire park...which goes back to "One"...
Four...Less time in line, more time to be in shops and eating establishments (= $$$$)
Fifth...still leaves the stand-by line available for people who really want to go on the attraction

....now....bring in the Virtual Queue for the incredibly high demand attractions (Rise of the Resistance) so you can a) keep wait times low, b) don't have unhappy people waiting forever (and not spending $$$$) elsewhere, and c) customers can go do other enjoyable things (happier customers) (and stay in the Disney bubble.)

So...I'm in favor of bringing back Fastpass+, keeping Virtual Queue as needed...and NOT charging for them.

But now...having opined on that...it appears that Disney has just made an announcement for Disneyland Paris...that pundits are saying is going to be coming to WDW...

In short...

Park Passes continue
Buy tickets to get into parks
Pay a Premium price if you want walk-on access to (all?) rides...(replaces Fastpass+)
Virtual Queue for the Standby (free) (replaces the just go walk up and stand in a Stand-by line)

Can only have one Virtual Queue at a time...can make your next one once the window for your current one opens. (Will have 30 minutes to get to your attraction once you are notified in the Virtual Queue.)

$$$$$ is right.

There are a few completely new things going on here (this isn't like Disneyland's free FastPass + paid MaxPass system):

Standby Pass completely replaces the standby queue for certain rides at peak times of the day. This is different from the old FastPass system, which was also a virtual queue system, but always operated in addition to the standby line for those who wanted to wait in line. If Disney's previous attempts at a similar system are any indication (Rise and the Spiderman ride at Disneyland California) are any indication, this is going to turn every E-ticket in the park into the race-to-hit-the-button mess that Rise is right now... not great.

Premier Access is a reservation system similar to the late FastPass+ at WDW... except (1) you can only book same-day and (2) you're paying per-ride (not a blanket flat fee for access like MaxPass or Universal's system). At 8-15 Euros a pop, this gets pricey really fast. And you're not even getting the advance-planning advantage that you got with FastPass+.

This is, frankly, an appalling cash grab (and the parks aren't cheap to start with)-- degrade the guest experience by crippling the standby queues, then make a paid workaround to bypass the "new and improved" standby system. Just... no.

If this comes to WDW, I'll be seriously reconsidering ever returning.

I saw the news of that. That is an outrageous over charging of Disney guest. If they implement anything similar to this I will be done with Disney. For the first time in decades I am starting to look at Disney in a negative light.

I really hope they don't implement the same thing at wdw that they are doing at Disneyland Paris, I liked the look of the fastpass+ system, you could plan you day and in a way it gave the opportunity to do as much or as little as you wanted, space your 3 passes out across the day or squeeze them in back to back and book your next one based on availability once you're in the queue for you last one then repeat until the end of the day or there are no passes available for anything, I'm not sure if that ever happened though.
If they bring in the paid option I don't know if we will ever visit, I'd have to keep an eye on the Disney app and monitor wait times (extreme, I know) to see how the long the stand by queues are for the time I'd be going then book for the following year and hope for the best.
Hoping to make our first trip to the World of Mouse one day

Micro-transaction for attractions. No thanks-it's like those free to play games on phones. You can play five rounds of candy crush but if you want to play 5 more rounds it's only .99 cents!

I am kinda ok with this. anything to keep lines moving better, there is no reason a line should be 2 hours long. I ideally dont want to have to pay more for an already expensive trip, but they need to do something other than the fastpass+. I just dont think that worked for the park as a whole

Does anyone else get tired of always having to take their phone out to do anything? I am all about technology but it is nice to walk up to a ride or food place and do not have to do something in your phone. They are ruining the experience. And I did not even mention this ridiculous policy DW Paris is implementing.

My feeling is EXACTLY this! If they added another fast pass tier as a ticket add on (the way a park hopper is), I would MAYBE consider getting it, depending on the cost, especially if I could use Disney visa points toward the price. But pay for fast passes, per ride??? The micro-transaction aspect of it is just too far for me. It also feels like it's just getting more and more complicated to plan a Disney vacation, and it already wasn't the easiest vacation to plan prior to COVID. I'm an ultra planner, and it's getting to be too much for even me to mentally keep track of!

Disney Eliminates FREE FAST PASS SYSTEM. PREMIER ACCESS CARDS REPLACEMENT.
DISNEYLAND PARIS to begin testing phase and trial to see how customers react and if they like the idea. They also are testing wait-times.
The cost will be $8.00 to $20.00 in range per attraction. Cast Members, will evaluate daily attraction demands.
Walt Disney World and Disneyland Parks are still TBA about this program.
Customer Self-Service Kiosks are being installed in all the parks to assist.

YES I totally agree! What is the point in going on a 'family' vacation if the 'family' is on the phone the whole time! Not to mention if everything is on your phone you have to continually make sure it has enough battery :x

while i agree that we need to fine ways to be off our phones more, I dont find the way disney implement the phone as intrusive. to be honest, i am only on the phone to access items, check wait times, or see schedules, and since i am not a paper person(maps) I love the way the have done this
