Split Stays

Postby DVCmike » Sat Feb 20, 2021 5:00 am

How does everyone feel about split stays?

Personally I like a change of scenery during our stay. Also Disney makes it easy with luggage transfer.

After doing it a few times I’ve learned to keep it to one (sometimes two or three) split(s) per trip. Once we had a trip staying at 6 different resorts and on paper it seemed like a great plan but packing up all those times was not ideal lol.

Also I always end with the nicest or largest room on last part of the trip. Never want to feel like a downgrade.

Thoughts?

I don't mind resort hopping on a resort only stay but I feel like I lose too much time on a we are going to the parks. We did a resort only stay in August. We stayed the first two nights in a Poly Studio and moved to a 1BR at BLT. I totally agree on the largest room at the end of the trip. Plus we can take advantage of the washer and dryer.

We have done Split Stays a few times now - I own at BLT and BCV - the nice thing is we can walk to Magic Kingdom from BLT, and walk to Epcot / Hollywood Studios from BCV.

I agree with not doing more than 1 split unless you are on a longer trip. For a 1 week stay I think 1 split is just right. Disney does make it really easy to do the luggage transfer and since we're in the parks all day anyway, our luggage is usually there by the time we make it to our room.

I'm not sure how you lose park time with a split stay though? For us, we pack everything the night before, wake up early and pack the remainder of our things - then call bell services to get our luggage. We're usually out of the room and heading to a park around the same time we normally would? Then we're not back to the new room until after dinner time.

Our trip in June we are doing BLT (1 bedroom) and BCV (Studio) in that order - so we'll probably regret the downgrade to a studio. In January we did the split the opposite way, BCV Studio to BLT 1 bedroom and the upgrade was awesome. I just couldn't find availability for BCV when we booked (it was post-11 month mark but pre-7 month mark).

It is definitely fun to try different resorts though! So far we have only stayed at BWV, BCV and BLT - we just joined DVC in late 2019, so we haven't tried too many resorts yet, but have plenty of time to try different ones in the future :)

I've done dozens of split stays ...almost every visit has included a split stay. It was more a way to avoid the higher point costs of Friday and Saturday originally, but even after DVC changed that we still have been doing them. As I get older(58) I can't deny there is something appealing about dropping my bags in a room and not moving them until we leave for home! Maybe on the next trip.....
