Where to "Rent" DVC points?

The kids want to book through Disney direct to ensure they get their honeymoon availability (Nov 2022) but the savings of DVC rentals are hugely tempting. Since WDW will allow them to cancel without penalty, does it make sense to book via WDW direct and then put in the request to rent DVC in the hopes that it will come through and they can cancel the more expensive stay or are there risks involved?
