Vacation Planning for October (Hurricane Season)

Hello All!
My family and I (4 adults) are planning out a Disney/Universal vacation, and it looks like early October 2021 would be a really good time to go from a financial standpoint. The only thing we're really hesitant about is the fact that it would likely still be during Hurricane Season. Vacation insurance would be a must, but would we be able to hang on to the deals we are trying to cash in on? Is hurricane season around Disney World/Universal not as bad as I'm thinking it may be? I'd appreciate any info or advice you folks may be able to offer.

We love going in October but the looming risk of a hurricane is always possible. We have been to Disney 3 times in October and one of our three trips we were unlucky enough to get caught in a hurricane (Matthew 2016). During the outing with the hurricane Disney did a good job staying open until the day the hurricane hit. The parks closed early and remained closed for a day. This caused us to miss both our not so scary nights and they were very accommodating in refunding those tickets. We had an extra day built in for a pool day so we shifted that around and used our extra park ticket on that day and used the hurricane day as our relax at the resort day (we were at Art of Animation). Overall the only thing I wasn't happy about was a lack of communication from Disney, but at the same time I understand that they don't want to make unnecessary decisions if the hurricane were to turn.
In summary, even a Category 4 hurricane only took away from 1 day for us and the rest of the trip was pretty nice. I wouldn't let a hurricane deter you from going as at worst it will affect 1.5 days of your trip. Good luck with your planning and have fun this fall.

Our favorite time to go is always October. We've been in Sept & late Nov as well (Thanksgiving) but October is hands down our favorite. Florida weather can be unpredictable anytime and then hurricane season on top. We've never had an issue during hurricane season- ever. There's always a possibility so never say never, but I think the reward outweighs the risk.
We take ponchos - cause, well it's Florida, and we pack sweatshirts & jeans, shorts, tees and flip flops too. It can be chilly in the mornings and evenings when the sun goes down, but during the day it can get quite hot. Rain showers can pop up and cool you off - or make it swampy depending on the time of day. If a big storm comes through head for the inside attractions and shows because a lot of the outside attractions will close because of lightning / thunder nearby even though you may not see it from where you are. Disney always errs on the side of safety.
Our trip is planned for October this year as well. Feel free to message my inbox here. I'd be happy to chat anytime.

Happy planning!
