Re: Have you drove to WDW
Love the drive to Disney. We started in 1973 in the station wagon and would go every 2 years. We would drive from Mass. and loved every minute of it.
Re: Have you drove to WDW
When we first started going to WDW in 1992 we drove from Texas to WDW the first two years. We got really tired of hitting all the road work and traffic on I-10. So, we've been flying now and we've gone to WDW every year. Love flying.

Re: Have you drove to WDW
We've driven from Texas to Orlando 11 times. We love road trips and the kids have come to really enjoy them as well. I love that they get to see other parts of the country. My husband liked to drive straight through but now we're going to break up the trip so that we have an overnight stay before we get to Orlando. I'm looking forward to it. Since we're a family of 7, driving helps to save money that we can use while at Disney. We also prefer to drive to parks that we can't get to via monorail or walking to so having our vehicle on property helps.

Re: Have you drove to WDW
Drove from Wisconsin this past summer when we stayed at BLT while the parks were still closed. We weren't in a hurry, so decided to avoid air travel and drive. Was fun to do once but can't see it happening again.

Re: Have you drove to WDW
I've been to WDW 3 times and all three times we drove from the Charlotte area. It takes about 8 hours, so we leave in the evening and stop in Savannah. That is the halfway point.

Re: Have you drove to WDW
We've only driven once. Have flown the other times we've been. But we're driving on our upcoming trip, from N. Alabama. It's about 10 hours and we plan to drive 6 hours the first day (leaving in the afternoon), and the other 4 hours the next morning.

Re: Have you drove to WDW
My family drives from North Carolina almost every time! After the first couple of trips, we started leaving at 4:30 or 5 in the morning, and we're on property by about 2:30pm, with plenty of time to enjoy the rest of the afternoon! Whenever we bring another friend or two they think we're just a little crazy.

Re: Have you drove to WDW
From Central Indiana a few times. The drive there is great-the drive back was always brutal and took away from the overall enjoyment of the trip. We found the extra cost for the flight was worth the time it allowed me (the driver) to enjoy the time at WDW.

Re: Have you drove to WDW
We've always driven but it's only 8 hrs for us so really not far. This year however, we're planning to fly and I'm so bummed because it'll be the only chance we get to use Magical Express since they're discontinuing it next year. We have a big group going but my husband and I want to get there before everyone else and set up some magic for the kids that are coming.

Re: Have you drove to WDW
I have driven countless times to WDW. It's a 5 hour drive from Northwest Florida. I normally leave around 1 or 2 am to make it in time for park opening, also the kids are sound asleep the whole way.

Re: Have you driven to WDW?
Back in the mid-70s, we once drove from western PA with two families (4 adults, 5 kids) for 2 days in a Ford Station Wagon. 2 adults and 1 kid in the front and back seats. 3 kids in the back with the luggage and coolers. The kids (of which I was one) had a blast. Not so sure about the adults being cooped up with a bunch of rowdy, whiny kids all that way (and back.) Did I mention that we did this once?

Re: Have you driven to WDW?
Since my family only lives 2.5 hours away, we always drive and we most of the time stay overnight since it’s very tiring to drive back home after a day at the park.

Re: Have you driven to WDW?
Many times, 10-12 hours. We got a discount airline, and Magical Express, just about the same time that I got to old to sit in a car for that long, so I got an AP and started taking three and four day weekends. And now that we've moved further away, I don't think I'll ever go back to driving.

That’s a really good point. You have to consider traffic, construction, weather and backups for other reasons.

I agree! From NYC it's a 2 hour flight and I'm on property by 11am! I've thought of driving down a few times but JetBlue makes it so convenient for me!

Re: Have you driven to WDW?
We drove down every 2-3 years on our family trips from my first trip in 1978 when I was 4. It wasn't until the last few years that I started flying. Now, that I go solo, and now that I'm 46, I just don't like doing the drive anymore. My body gets too achy and stiff. Besides, it's a direct flight for me versus a 10 hour car ride.
Growing up, though, we always broke up the trip with a night at the beach.

Re: Have you driven to WDW?
Not sure how many times, but I can say we definitely did it once when I was a kid. This was back when Star Wars first came out, I will never forget some things about that trip. There were 5 kids with 2 adults driving in a Dodge van that the back seats were able to transform into a large bed (we didn't have to wear seatbelts at that time). All us kids were in the back playing games and making Star Wars paper masks. We would put the masks on and look at other cars, 'playing' with fellow travelers We drove from New Hampshire so I think we took 2-3 days to get there.

Re: Have you driven to WDW?
I`ve considered it, but I would be driving alone from Northern Illinois. Have to think about it.
Have a great big beautiful tomorrow!!
